Skyline players react to Gervais move

Two members of the Skyline High football team talked to the Times about the news that their head coach, Steve Gervais, is moving to UW, apparently to become running backs coach.
“As a team, we’e all really shocked,” said quarterback Jake Heaps. “At the same time, you’re really happy for him. His dream has been to coach at the college level. I’m very excited for him.”
Gervais told his players during a team meeting today and Heaps said “you could see how hard it was for him. It’s unbelievable to think he’s not going to be there.”
Said receiver Gino Simone: “It’s awesome for Coach Gerv and we’re all really happy for him. Obviously, he’s the best coach in the state. Everyone knows it. It’s a big loss for us. We still have to take care of business. … When you think Skyline football, you think of Steve Gervais. It’s a weird thing knowing we’re not going to see Gerv out there.”
