Huskies “Blitz The Sound”

I mentioned yesterday I spent the morning following some of the UW players as they took part in the “Blitz The Sound” community outreach event.
Here’s the story that resulted.
It was a fun morning watching the guys interact with the Kindergartners — they seemed to genuinely be interested and they spent more than two hours there, so it’s not as if they just stopped in, posed for a few pictures, and took off. There are obviously a lot of questions about the direction of the program on the field, but events like this show that there some good things happening, as well. We also covered this event last year, as well.
Many other players will be visiting a number of other schools in the area today as the BTS concludes.
Here’s a statement UW coach Tyrone Willingham released yesterday about the goals of the event:
“Community service is one of the four pillars of our program. It fits very comfortably with our goals of 1) building great players who comprise the best team in the country, 2) producing great students, 3) developing young men who lead and serve others, and 4) creating an environment in which young men can have fun in a responsible manner. Donating time and self is one way that we can perform a service to the community, as well as aid the maturation of our young men into adults. I believe with these values we will develop young men who will be our future great leaders.”
