The latest news and analysis on the Montlake Dawgs.

This edition also includes something of an answer to a question posed to me earlier this week — what’s going on with UW’s recruiting with the coaching staff in such limbo?
I attempted to answer that in this story here. The upshot is that it’s not an easy time at all for the Huskies to recruit — they haven’t gotten a commitment since early last month, and the rumor mill indicates there aren’t any on the immediate horizon. UW has five commits right now. Keith Gilbertson had four at this time in 2004 when his recruiting began to hit a standstill as it became obvious he wasn’t going to survive the season. But rumblings are that the powers-that-be don’t see a need to make a change to save recruiting, feeling that it probably wouldn’t help much anyway, because recruits will be hesitant until they know who the new coach is going to be.

Bud Withers of our staff decided today to ask Jim Lambright how he would defend the spread offenses that are now all the rage. His basic answer? Attack.
— The Boston Globe assesses the hot seats at UW and Syracuse (and you sure didn’t figure to see Tyrone Willingham and Greg Robinson linked in such a story in August 2007 after what the Huskies did).
— The St. Louis Post-Dispatch further addresses the Gary Pinkel-to-UW rumors and essentially concludes it won’t happen. More comments from Don James about the situation, as well.
— Speaking of UW’s recruiting, one writer says Keith Price’s team should be getting a lot more respect.
PROGRAMMING NOTE — With the Huskies off this weekend, posts here figure to be sporadic, at best, the next three days. I may pop in with another round of answers, and any news if applicable. But overall, the pace will slow a bit for a few days before picking back up next week.
