Thursday update

UW coach Tyrone Willingham met with the media for the final time this week as the Huskies prepare for UCLA Saturday. Percy Allen was there and files this report:
The most significant personnel move is that Jordan Polk will not be able to play while still recovering from a concussion suffered last week and will be replaced as the primary kickoff returner by Matt Mosley.
Mosley stepped in for Polk last week and turned in a 63-yard return to start the second half that was the longest of the year for the Huskies.
Willingham also was asked about that guys applying for a sixth year and said that’s something for the next coach to handle. CB Byron Davenport has said he would like to apply for one after missing this season with a knee injury. He also redshirted while at UCLA and missed another season while attending a junior college.
Willingham also said that RB David Freeman won’t play but that DT Senio Kelemete will be on the 64-man travel team to the hotels and should be available.
Willingham was also asked about a recent diversity report, which gave a failing grade to college football’s hiring practices.
“Obviously it should be a great concern to all of us because it means there’s a pool of talent in our country that’s not tapped,” he said. “And this should be a country that’s about tapping all talent that we have and all the resources that we have to use in a very productive way. We’ve battled this for some time African-American coaches at this level and at no point has it been where it should be. The representation is far short of what it should be. … And in my estimation, that hurts all of us.”
Willingham said college football should adopt a policy similar to the NFL’s Rooney Rule which forces teams to interview at least one minority candidate when a head coaching position becomes available.
“All you’re asking for with the Rooney Rule is an opportunity to sit down at the table,” Willingham said. “It does not mean that the individual is hired. It means the individual has the opportunity to sit down at the table.”
Here are also a few interesting links:
— The Sporting News has this list of college coaches who might be willing to leave their current jobs, and speculates that Utah’s Kyle Wittingham could be the next guy at UW.
— People at Arizona are already that they’ll lose offensive coordinator Sonny Dykes should Mike Leach leave. Speaking of Leach, here is a compilation of some of his greatest YouTube hits.
