Tedford says no contact with UW, other notes

With Cal being the opponent this week, UW beat writers had a chance to talk with Bears coach Jeff Tedford today previewing the game.
An obvious, if uncomfortable, question was whether UW has tried to contact Tedford about the job. “They have not,” Tedford said.
And all indications from Berkeley is that Tedford is expected to stay put.
This was also the last Monday press luncheon for UW coach Tyrone Willingham who downplayed the angle that this will be his last game as Washington’s coach, saying there will “be no real sentimental conversations” with his players as his coaching tenure at UW ends.
Willingham said Willie Griffin will likely start at TB but otherwise had no real personnel information of note.
UW cornerback Quinton Richardson showed up and said that it will be “a tough week” with the team knowing this is it for Willingham.
Richardson said Willingham has had personal meetings with every player on the roster the last few weeks to say thanks and goodbye and just generally talk.
“It meant a lot,” Richardson said of his meeting. “It showed he has a lot of respect for this game and this team.”
Richardson, who was beaten on the key play of the Apple Cup in the final minute, said he had “a tough week” last week dealing with the loss.
But he said a lot of talking with teammates and friends helped him through it.
“I just kind of abandoned my technique,” he said. “It was more my fault than anything else. It was a tough time. But there is always next year.”
