More on Sarkisian, Leach, Tui’s sixth year, other notes

A few notes on the last game-week Wednesday of the season:
— Reports out of Los Angeles confirm that USC offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian has interviewed for UW’s head-coaching job, apparently on Thanksgiving Day. So he would be the fourth coach known to have interviewed, three in the last week — Michael Haywood, Pat Hill, Mike Leach and Sarkisian. The story says a decision is expected early Sunday or Monday, which has been a conventional timetable all along that it would happen shortly after the Cal game.
— Our story today leads off with the news about Leach but also includes a note about Jim Mora, that while there apparently were some preliminary talks at one point, there has never even been as much as a sit-down meeting with Mora, despite all the rumors concerning his candidacy. Everything we hear is that there has been no change in Mora’s status and he’s no more a candidate now than he was when he said he wasn’t a candidate, something we’ve been reporting for a while now.
— UW compliance director John Morris confirmed this morning that LB Trenton Tuiasosopo has received a sixth year of eligibility after having missed two seasons earlier in his career because of injury. This news first broke last week but Morris said they wanted to wait to make sure all parties were OK with it before talking about it publicly. Tuiasosopo has been listed as a senior all season but this now gives him the option to return for one more year.
— Here’s an Associated Press wrapup of the Leach situation.
UPDATE — And just as I posted this, I was alerted to this story today from the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal with Texas Tech chancellor Kent Hance saying the school will do what it can to keep Leach. Some good background in there on Leach’s contract situation as well as a note that he didn’t tell anybody he was heading to Seattle.
— Here’s a Fresno Bee report on the uncertainty at Fresno State with Hill being in the mix at UW. Also noteworthy — the AD says he won’t comment on talks of a possible renegotiated contract for Hill, meaning maybe FSU won’t put up a huge fight.
— Notre Dame made it official today that it will keep Charlie Weis which no longer seems to really impact UW’s search, as far as we can tell.
— Cal’s players are hoping for a Las Vegas Bowl berth as they prepare to play UW this weekend.
— A good look back at the announcement at Oregon yesterday, plus lots of other Pac-10 links from Ken Goe of the Oregonian.
All for now.
