Coaching moves in the offing

New UW coach Steve Sarkisian has been meeting with the existing assistant coaches this morning and has already told some they won’t be retained.
“I’m out,” offensive coordinator Tim Lappano said earlier today after meeting with Sarkisian. The meetings were said to run about 15 minutes in length or so.
Lappano said that given the situation with this season he wasn’t surprised. “No, not at all,” he said.
Dawgman.com is reporting that the only assistants who may be retained are defensive line coach Randy Hart and linebackers coach and recruiting coordinator Chris Tormey.
It is expected that UW will make an official announcement on all of this soon.
The only assistant who had a contract beyond this season is defensive coordinator Ed Donatell, who signed a contract through June 30, 2010 paying him 334,008 per year. If he finds another job before the contract runs out, however, he stops being paid by UW.
The rest of the contracts for the assistants run through June 30, 2009. The coaches will receive the rest of the money due them as a lump sum within 30 days of their termination date.
If Hart stays, this means it would be the sixth different Husky head coach he will work for, having started in 1988 under Don James and also lasting through Jim Lambright, Rick Neuheisel, Keith Gilbertson and Tyrone Willingham. Hart recruits in the state, one reason he has always been valued.
USC COACHES COMING IN? — There have been various rumors about USC coaches joining the staff. One source told me that a likely candidate is Yogi Roth, who has been on the Trojan staff the last three years most recently as a graduate assistant for quarterbacks.
As for other coaches from down there, there have been rumors that he approached DeWayne Walker but I’m told that’s a huge long shot. Walker is reported to be one of two finalists for the head coaching job at San Diego State. That was a job Willingham was said to be a contender for. But the two finalists are said to be Walker and Dennis Franchione.
