Blackman won’t make it in; Seto mulling DC offer

A little bit of news on a Friday night concerning Dominique Blackman and UW’s open defensive coordinator spot.
First, Blackman, who had been full of hope a few days ago that his journey to become a Husky was almost complete, said he won’t make it in, after all.
Blackman said new UW coach Steve Sarkisian called him earlier tonight and told him “the best thing for me to do is to open my recruiting again. So I guess that’s what I’m going to have to do.”
Blackman, a Carson, Calif., native who signed with UW last February, said he was just 20 points shy of a qualifying test score after falling one class short of what he would have needed to make it in on the sliding scale of test scores and grades. He said earlier this week he thought he had done what was needed. But he said Sarkisian told him Friday it wasn’t going to work out. Blackman claimed Sarkisian didn’t specify what had gone wrong.
Blackman said he was frustrated after feeling he had done all he could to get in.
But Blackman also said “I put myself in this position by not taking care of business my senior year. Now I know I’ve got to make wiser decisions.”
UW has three returning QBs on scholarship — Jake Locker, Ronnie Fouch and Luther Leonard — and also has a commitment from Keith Price , who said earlier this week he is “pumped up” about the hiring of Sarkisian and will almost certainly fulfill his original commitment.
Price, a dual threat QB, admitted he had an original reservation when he heard about Sarkisian knowing that USC runs a more pro-style attack. But he said that “I’m pretty sure it will be a West Coast offense, but I’ll still have chances to run the ball, so it’s good.”
Price decided to reconsider his options a bit after the coaching move at UW earlier this fall and he was expected to visit Arizona State this weekend. But he said he was making other trips “just to make sure I make the right decision” and that he expects to become a Husky.
On the coaching front, the LA Daily News reports tonight via Scott Wolf’s USC blog that USC secondary coach Rocky Seto has indeed been offered the position as UW’s defensive coordinator and will “make a decision within a couple days.”
The LADN also reports that USC DC Nick Holt was earlier offered the job but turned it down.
