Speaking from the Hart

I had a chance today to talk with longtime UW assistant Randy Hart, who was told last week he would not be retained as defensive line coach by new coach Steve Sasrkisian.
It meant the end of the line for Hart at UW after 21 years, a tenure that started under Don James and continued under Jim Lambright (for whom he was defensive coordinator for four years), Rick Neuheisel, Keith Gilbertson and Tyrone Willingham.
“I had a great run,” he said, “I can’t be upset about it. I wish I was there, but I’m not. Life goes on. The University has been great to me and there is no animosity whatever.”
And when Hart says life goes on, it’s a life he says will include coaching.
There had been reports that he might be considering retiring, but he said that has never entered his mind. He’s 60 years old, an age when he could retire, but says he definitely wants to keep coaching. He said he is in the process now of trying to get his name out there for openings, but said it’s more realistic he’ll find something after the bowl season ends and more jobs come open.
