Arizona strikes blow for Pac-10

The Pac-10’s bowl season got off to a nice start tonight with Arizona beating BYU 31-21.
Ted Miller points out the win helps give the Pac-10 a little needed revenge on the Mountain West Conference, which went 6-1 against the Pac-10 during the regular season.
Meanwhile, Anthony Gimino of the Tucson Citizen writes that the win solidifies that Mike Stoops has Arizona headed in the right direction and includes news that he is sure to get a contract extension now.
Arizona Daily Star columnist Greg Hansen wonders if Arizona’s success might mean other teams will come after some of UA’s assistants — and writes specifically that Steve Sarkisian might target Arizona defensive coordinator Mark Stoops.
As Hansen writes, Arizona’s defense has played well against USC the last three years and that Mark Stoops might be compelled to leave if the money is right — Hansen throws out the figure $300,000 but worth nothing new OC Jim Michalczik is getting $350,000. Seems like a longshot given that he’d be going against his brother every year, but as we wrote earlier, it’s hard to tell at the moment where the DC search is headed.
KALIGIS ON THE MOVE? FootballScoop.com reports that former Husky lineman and strength coach Pete Kaligis will take a new job as the OL coach at Wyoming. He has been at Montana.
