Saturday a.m. links and picks

A few quick links and picks before heading out into the snow:
— Here’s a story from the LBPost on the commitment of Talia Crichton to UW.
— Also a story from the Daily Breeze on Josh Moten where his coach says again that Moten is heavily leaning toward UW but still open.
— And a story from Detroit reporting that Ron English is one of two finalists for the head coaching job at Eastern Michigan. I’m hearing conflicting things on how interested English may be in the UW job. But the consensus is that he won’t be interested at all until the EMU job clears up, which as the story indicates may not happen for a few days. And for those who always ask why we don’t call the coaches and ask them, the quote from English in this story should explain. A few coaches sometimes comment on this stuff but most don’t.
— And now for a my bowl picks for today as part of the 2008 Husky Football Blog Bowl Extravaganza (and great to see more than 400 entries) — Navy, Fresno State and former future Husky head coach Pat Hill, South Florida and BYU. On the latter pick, someone wrote to me yesterday how the Huskies played both teams and could we read anything into the Vegas bowl based on how UW fared. Bluntly, no. Jake Locker played his only really good game of the season against BYU, which changed the entire complexion of that game and kept UW in it. Ronnie Fouch got his first start at Arizona a game in which the Husky players appeared to know the season was over and never showed up. I think this will be a close game, but I’ll call it BYU 24, Arizona 20.
All for now.
