Butler takes in inauguration

UW linebacker Donald Butler will miss whatever he’s supposed to be doing on campus tomorrow, but he has a good reason — he decided to attend one of the more historic presidential inaugurations.
This AP story today on the scene at the inauguration quoted Butler, apparently having no idea he’s a UW football player, but instead just as a face in the crowd. A UW spokesman confirmed it is the same Donald Butler who plays for the Huskies.
The story quotes Butler as saying, among other things, that “I just had to be here.”
I’ll try to track down Butler later to ask him about his experience there.
HUARD TO ILLINOIS STATE? — Also tonight, FootballScoop.com reports that Luke Huard, who was a graduate assistant for the Huskies the last two years, has been hired at Illinois State as quarterbacks coach. Illinois State has a new head coach in longtime Purdue assistant Brock Spack.
You’ll note FootballScoop also reports that another former UW assistant, Tony Alford, will become the running backs coach at Notre Dame.
BUSTER SPORTS HIGH ON UW FUTURE — Finally, a good piece from Nick Daschel at Buster Sports assessing the five-year plans for every Pac-10 football program.
Daschel notes UW’s hire of Steve Sarkisian and aggressive intent to get back on top and puts UW at No. 4 while stating that he may in a few years wonder why he didn’t put the Huskies No. 2.
