Tuesday links, notes

A few midday links and notes
— Everybody’s favorite Pac-10 writer, Nick Daschel, is back with a good recruiting Q-and-A with recruiting expert Tom Luginbill of ESPN.
Included are these two thoughts on the Huskies:
Question: Will Steve Sarkisian be able to sign a meaningful class in his first year at Washington?
Luginbill: Unlikely, and I think they know it. The state of California is the key to whether he succeeds or not. Next year will be a much more fair barometer as to the direction they are heading.
Q: Does Sarkisian mirror Pete Carroll as a recruiter, or does he go about it in a different way.
Luginbill: I would say he emulates Carroll because for the most part that is all he knows. Obviously this is a different job and he will have to tweak his pitch and become far more aggressive because it is not the same sell as USC right now. I can tell you if he exudes the same enthusiasm as Carroll than he’ll be just fine.
— This is a couple days old, but here’s a good roundup of the recruiting prospects for the entire Pac-10 from Scout.inc. The consensus is the same as every other similar story — the real test of the recruiting ability of Sarkisian and staff comes next year.
Bruce Feldman of ESPN has this recruiting blog with a lot of good notes, None of them are really UW-related but he does answer the question of what is going on with the recruitment of Hawaiian linebacker Manti Te’o, whom a few of you have asked me about. Short answer? He’s not coming to UW.
— Here’s more on the commitment of JC DT Myles Wade to Texas Tech. He had been considering a trip to UW next week, but that is off now that’s headed to Lubbock.
— Oregon hired former Nebraska QB Scott Frost — who had one of his greatest days at Husky Stadium in 1997 — as its new WR coach. The most interesting thing about it all is that the hire was made by Mike Bellotti, indicating maybe he’s returning as coach in 2009.
All for now.
