Dubs is the name UPDATED

The name for the new Husky mascot is “Dubs.”
It’s a puppy Alaskan Malamute, a boy born on Nov. 15, that was just “introduced” to the media. There should be an official release shortly.
The name was voted on by fans, students, and faculty and administrators. Word is the other two finalists were Spirit, the name of the previous live mascot, and Sundodger, which was once the nickname for the UW’s sports teams before Huskies took over.
Spirit was due to be retired last year then suffered a season-ending injury when it stepped in a hole chasing a squirrel, suffering a shoulder injury in the process, an all-too-apt analogy for a season gone wrong.
Also, for those who have asked, the “weasel” logo is being phased out. It is no longer being produced on any UW merchandise. There will apparently be a new logo at some point, though there is no date for that. For now, the block W is the major mark.
UPDATE — Here is the official release on “Dubs” as well as a link to his own web page.
