Stanford starts spring practice

Barely two weeks after letter-of-intent day, a Pac-10 team has hit the field for the beginning of spring practice.
That would be Stanford, annually one of the first to get started, splitting its 15 practices into two sessions — the Cardinal won’t conclude until April 13.
Here’s a story from the San Jose Mercury News with some details on Stanford’s spring drills.
And to answer a question that inevitably arises, teams get only 15 practices in the spring no matter when they start so there is no advantage to starting earlier or anything. Schools typically try to fit it around class schedules — after finals and spring break for quarter schools, as is the case at UW — and when the weather may be the best.
As for UW, its spring practice is set to begin March 31 and conclude with the spring game April 25.
Here’s a list of dates for spring practices for a number of teams around the country.
