Casto an intriguing walk-on

Of the five new walk-ons the Huskies welcomed last week after holding tryouts, one of the most interesting may be tight end Christian Casto.
If the last name sounds familiar, it should as Casto is indeed the brother of Washington State basketball player DeAngelo Casto.
The two are not biologically related but were adopted within a couple years of each other and grew up together, going to high school in the Spokane area. Christian Casto attended Freeman High while DeAngelo attended Ferris for most of his high school career.
Christian Casto played football at Freeman as a tight end and middle linebacker but initially enrolled at Washington last year thinking he might be done with the sport. He actually was a member of the crew team last year for the Huskies but said “that wasn’t really my sport. I have a lot of respect for those guys. They work really hard. But I wasn’t really a rower. I wasn’t used to it.”
So he decided this spring to give football another shot, making the team during the walk-on tryouts last week. “I just decided to try it again because I love football,” he said.
The 6-5, 215-pounder said he initially tried out as a linebacker but the coaches offered him a spot as a tight end, instead, so that’s where he’s lined up for now.
