Updated swimming story posted

Here’s our updated story on the announcement today that UW will eliminate its swimming programs.
I’m posting it here, as well, because there is some info there related to the football program — specifically, how declining revenue from football has helped lead to the budget cuts UW is having to make right now. No secret that football is the bread-winner of most college athletic programs and when it stumbles, as it has at UW the past 5-6 years, there are consequences. The overall economic malaise in the country and state is also a big part of it, as well.
And as mentioned in the story, the swimming program had its own issues that made it particularly vulnerable to this. UW AD Scott Woodward said on KJR-AM today he does not anticipate cutting any other athletic programs.
