Husky Football Blog

The latest news and analysis on the Montlake Dawgs.

May 12, 2009 at 9:43 AM

Tuesday a.m. links, notes

Just think, exactly four months from today, UW will be favored to win its first football game in almost two years. …
— The prolific Jon Wilner of the San Jose Mercury News examines the schedules in the Pac-10 and rates UW’s as the second-hardest in the conference behind USC. (I actually have my own entry on this just about ready to go and have it initially judged similarly). And just to be clear, nothing is going to change now.
— ESPN.com’s Ted Miller looks at how fans voted on some key issues concerning Pac-10 football vs. how he sees it. Miller agrees with the fans that UW should be a lot better than WSU this year. And he makes an obvious — but interesting when looked at this way — point that the Huskies not only return just about everyone from last but also essentially add Jake Locker and E.J. Savannah, Locker having played in only 14 quarters for the Huskies last season. This time a year ago, many would have argued those two were UW’s two best players. I’m sticking with an over-under of four wins for UW in 2009. But looking at it that way does give some hope.
— Everyone’s a blogger these days, aren’t they? The latest to get into the act is the UW Sports Information Department, which has created the Dawg Blawg to be the official blog of UW athletics.
— A lot of you on here have debated that maybe the Pac-10 should just kick out WSU and add Utah. But as this story from over the weekend notes, Utah is having its own financial difficulties, making my point that absolutely no one is immune to the current economic troubles, one reason you’re not going to see conferences start kicking out anybody.
— CollegeFantasyFootballInsider has this post-spring look at the Pac-10 from a fantasy standpoint.
— Lastly, I finally got a reply this morning from a PR person with the UFL after I sent a note yesterday trying to confirm the hiring of Tyrone Willingham (detailed in this story). The spokesperson said there was no official confirmation only that an announcement of new coaches is coming soon.
