Cuts made official

As noted earlier, the UW athletic department announced an additional $1.6 million in budget cuts today.
Here’s our story on the cuts, and here is the official release from the school.
What may be most relevant to fans is that there will be no cuts to scholarships in any sport and more cuts of sports. In essence, there are seven new layoffs of existing personnel and all are in areas such as the sports information department, administration, marketing, academic services and facilities.
UW officials, however, say there will be an across-the-board cut in the budgets for every sport, including football and men’s basketball. The exact details are still to be worked out but the biggest cuts will come in travel.
