Changes at Husky Stadium

This isn’t the extreme makeover the powers-that-be hoped would occur this year at Husky Stadium.
But the school began this morning to replace the FieldTurf at Husky Stadium with a new turf, a process that will take 2-3 weeks and cost about $350,000.
Here are the details along with a drawing of what the new field will look like, including a return to gold end zones.
Here is the original release when the project was announced in April with more details. As explained then, if they had gotten the okay to do the total reconstruction of Husky Stadium, this new turf would have been used for the track, so it wouldn’t have gone to waste after just a year.
I was up at UW today and right now there are just tarps covering the field.
Also, if you drive by the stadium today, you’ll notice the ticket booth is no longer there, ripped out as part of the SoundTransit project that will last through approximately 2014. There will be a temporary ticket booth in place for the season.
The Husky Stadium Advisory Committee is expected to meet soon to discuss where the project goes from here. What remains most likely is that the school makes another run at public funding next year (there’s little thought that Husky Stadium would be addressed in a fall special session, if one is held). But UW AD Scott Woodward says anything and everything will be discussed and considered in how to raise the funds for the project. That committee is chaired by former senator and governor Dan Evans.
