Sunday night notes — Montana visit to UW on tap

Just too nice out to get to these earlier. …
— QB Nick Montana, son of Joe, told Scout.com today that he has a list of seven finalists, which includes UW. The seven are — in no particular order, he said — Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, Stanford, LSU, Notre Dame and Washington. Montana also said he plans to visit UW next weekend. He said he wants to visit UW “to get another feel for a different type of school” and because he got to know Steve Sarkisian at USC. “My quarterbacks coach and parents thought it would be a good idea to look up there and see how it goes,” he said.
— Turns out maybe Jon Brockman thought it was April 1 or something as he raised some excitement earlier in the day by posting on his Twitter page a lot of hints that maybe he was contemplating staying at UW for a year to play football, instead. (Or maybe this was Brockman’s reaction to all the speculation about why he missed the NBA Combine earlier this week). Anyway, Brockman later wrote that “you can’t believe what you read on the internet” — this site excepted, I’m sure he meant to say — and that he was just joking around and that his future remains with basketball. I’d make some kind of joke of mine own about all of this but I don’t want him thinking I’m a rebound or something next time he sees me. Judging by the e-mail I got, at least it was a fun thought while it lasted for some of you. As for why he missed the combine last week, still no official word on that.
— The Sporting News has a Q-and-A with Sarkisian. Nothing groundbreaking but some interesting stuff nonetheless. Maybe most interesting is his assertion that “Chris Polk could be special.” Don’t think there’s any doubt who they expect to win the TB job in the fall.
— In case you missed this earlier today, the LA Times had a fairly exhaustive look at the USC investigation in today’s paper. Every time I read these stories the sense I get is that USC basketball is in a lot more potential hurt than USC football. And good news for UW — no mention of Sarkisian anywhere.
All for now.
