More on Heaps, other notes

The good news? The Jake Heaps recruiting saga will soon be over.
The bad news for UW fans? There is no question he is heading to BYU as multiple sources have confirmed to the Times that he will announce tomorrow that he will play for the Cougars. Sources also confirmed that he will hold a press conference in Provo tomorrow.
Heaps would not confirm it himself, however. Tom Wyrwich of our staff spoke to Heaps briefly as he left the field following a Skyline High spring practice today. Heaps would say only that “everyone is just going to have to watch tomorrow.” No one would say, but Heaps’ hurry off the field might have been to catch an airplane to Salt Lake.
Here’s our updated story on Heaps’ decision.
For UW fans, it’s now time to look at who else is out there, which is also addressed in the story.
The most immediate hope for the Huskies may be Nick Montana. ESPN.com’s Greg Biggins has more details on Montana’s upcoming visit to UW. Montana sounds like he is very interested in UW but also sounds as if he will take a little while to make his decision.
While UW coach Steve Sarkisian surely wanted to keep Heaps home, the reality is that if he can land one of the other two big targets — Montana or Jesse Scroggins — I don’t think the perception of the class will be hurt much. And as was discussed here yesterday, there are some recruiting experts who think either of the other two might be a lot better fit for UW than Heaps would have been.
What we know for sure tonight is that Heaps’ decision will add another layer of intrigue to the ongoing UW-BYU series, which began in Seattle last season. The two teams are set to play in Provo to kick off next season, and then in Seattle in September of 2011 and then one last time in Provo in 2012, by which time Heaps would likely be entrenched as BYU’s starting QB.
UPDATE — The Fox station in Salt Lake City says the news conference will be tomorrow at 1 p.m. Seattle time. The spokesman hired by the Heaps family said about 8 p.m. that the details of the announcement will come later tonight.
UPDATE NO. 2 — This report says several players will commit to BYU on Thursday, including Heaps, at a local sports eatery. The report hints that one of the players could be Heaps’ Skyline teammate, WR Kasen Williams. But there has been no indication of that from anywhere else. That would almost be bigger news than Heaps if that were to happen. But it appears to be just speculation.
IN OTHER NEWS. …
— In case you missed it on the live chat, Sarkisian said when I talked with him earlier today that fall camp will begin Aug. 10 with players reporting the day before. All of it will be held at UW.
— He also said that RB Brandon Yakaboski re-injured his knee recently during rehab and is likely done for the season.
