Last word on Heaps, a little on Scroggins

Okay, I know most/all of you are anxious to wrap up the Jake Heaps deal so I’ll make this the last post on that topic for now.
But wanted to pass along our updated story, which includes some quotes from Skyline coach Mat Taylor saying, among other things, that he thinks it was a really close decision between BYU and UW.
And here is the view from Tom Luginbill of ESPN’s Scouts Inc. as he assess what this means to all parties involved.
Also, I missed this a couple of days ago, but the Scout.com North Carolina site had an update on Jesse Scroggins reporting that he plans to take a visit to UNC sometime this month and also has plans to visit Florida and Tennessee. (It’s a premium story but here it is if you are a subscriber).
The story notes that UW is the only school Scroggins has visited so far. He is quoted in the story saying he plans to cut his list to five schools by late-July or mid-August and make a decision by the end of August.
The story states the connection with UNC is through assistant John Blake, the former Oklahoma head coach who roomed with Scroggins’ uncle when each played at OU in the ’80s. Blake is known as a strong recruiter, given credit for bringing in a lot of the talent that won Oklahoma a national title in 2000 even if the school needed to fire him and bring in Bob Stoops to put it all together.
So it sounds like if Scroggins is going to be the QB UW gets in this class, Husky fans will have to wait a while.
