More on Nick Montana and a dubious honor for the Huskies included in this edition. …
— Montana, as mentioned in earlier posts, is participating this week in the Elite 11 QB camp. SuperPrep.com has this story today that breaks down all of the QBs in attendance, including Jake Heaps. It’s a pay story, written by Scott Kennedy, the site’s director of scouting, so I won’t repeat all it says about Montana. Kennedy, however, writes that Montana is “one of the smallest players on the field” and “doesn’t have the strongest arm out there” but makes up for it by understanding the position so well. “Montana isn’t going to do any one thing that stands out other than pick a team apart.”
Jon Wilner has his this list of the worst Pac-10 teams of the past decade, continuing his recent series. UW is mentioned three times with the 2005 team checking in at No. 8, the 2004 team at No. 5 and last year’s team at No. 1. But Wilner writes that he thinks the 2008 Huskies wouldn’t be the worst of the group if they played a round-robin tournament, especially if Jake Locker had stayed healthy. He says he would have put last year’s Cougars at No. 1 on the list if they hadn’t beaten the Huskies.
Nick Daschel of Buster Sports takes a look at the over-unders for every Pac-10 team and concludes that UW is a risky bet because it’s so hard to know what the Huskies are going to do, saying they could win “five, even six” games with a few breaks.
— ESPN.com’s Ted Miller takes a look at the changes in coordinators throughout the conference.
— The Sporting News has this update on OL Erik Kohler, a top target of the Huskies, who says again that UW is No. 1 on his list and that he may make an official commitment by September.
All for now.
