Gold end zones and Billy Joe Hobert highlight this edition. …
— For those of you who have asked when and how they were going to paint the end zones, Coach Sark’s blog supplies the answer, showing a picture of the first touches of gold.
— Hobert, meanwhile, told Dave “Softy” Mahler at KJR-AM the other day he plans to be at the LSU game Sept. 5. It will be his first appearance at a game at Husky Stadium since he left the school in 1992. He did attend last year’s game at USC as well as a few others in LA, having moved to Southern California a few years ago. Here’s a Times story from 2002 detailing his post-UW journey. Softy says he will be auctioning off this week a chance to play golf with Hobert on his show.
— Buster Sports looks at Pac-10 special teams since 1999 and concludes that UW’s have been the worst — no real surprise for anyone who has watched the Huskies during that time.
— The Arizona Daily Star looks at five things to watch in the Pac-10 this season, and says among them is wondering which teams the Washington schools will be able to beat.
— LSU begins practice Thursday. UW doesn’t start until Monday. But that doesn’t mean LSU will practice more, just that it will spread it out over more days. Here are the rules for practices, the key one being no more than 29 on-field practices in the pre-season.
All for now.
