Some news on the Angels’ interest in Jake Locker, UW alums, recruiting, and more!!!!. …
— First off, Coach Sark’s Top Five of the day, with Justin Glenn winning Player of the Day honors and Jordan Polk play of the day for his catch down the sideline of a pass from Ronnie Fouch.
— The Orange County Register quotes an Angels’ official as saying the team is still trying to sign Locker and is willing to allow him to play football for one more year. However, that makes it sound as if the Angels would want Locker to start playing baseball after that — and I can’t really tell from reading the story if that means after this season or after next season. Locker has made it clear he wants to finish his football career at UW and then pursue a football career if it’s there and that he hoped to sign to have baseball as another option should he ever want to go in that direction. I wrote this story earlier this summer laying out how the Locker family viewed all of this. So maybe that’s where there’s been a holdup as Locker had said previously he wanted to sign by the beginning of camp, which was Monday. And as the story notes, the deadline to sign is next Monday.
— Former UW QB Cody Pickett has been named the new starter for the Toronto Argonauts.
— The Dallas Morning News says Isaiah Stanback had better have a good camp if he wants to be on the Cowboys’ roster this season.
Nick Daschel of Buster Sports, who attended UW’s practice Monday, writes that maybe there is hope for the Huskies.
— Greg Biggins has news on a couple of guys UW has been recruiting — athlete Dietrich Riley and DE Brent Williams, each of the southern California area. The story on Riley doesn’t mention UW but he’s been reported to have medium interest in the Huskies. The story, meanwhile, mentions that Williams go this first offer from UW and wanted to commit but has decided to go through the process to see what else may be out there.
Ted Miller’s “Best Case, Worst Case” for Oregon contains a “worst case” scenario for the UW game Husky fans will find entertaining.
Scott Wolf shows all the covers for the SI college football issue, due out this week. I’m not thinking the West Coast issue will sell real well in Seattle.
All for now.
