Saturday practice report — Locker baseball deadline nearing

Back from UW’s practice this morning, and not much news of note to report.
The team worked out for about 90 minutes in helmets and shorts/sweats, no pads, so no real contact. There were no new injuries of note and no real personnel changes. The only new injury is DE Everrette Thompson sitting out with a sore ankle.
Much of the practice was devoted to the two-minute drill work, which meant a lot of nickel on the field. David Batts appears to be emerging as the main extra defensive back when the team goes to five DBs.
The No. 1 offense didn’t score in two tries during the team period at the end of practice, given 1:30 on the clock and 70 yards to go. Jake Locker drove the team to the five on the final drive but an Erik Folk 22-yard FG on the last play clanked off the upright.
The first drive for the No. 1 offense ended on downs but was largely a missed opportunity as Locker and Devin Aguilar just missed connecting on what might have been about a 49-yard TD. The pass, about 25 yards in the air, was just a little high and Aguilar, who got both hands on it, couldn’t bring it down. But overall, it was a catchable ball, and Locker had a good day throwing in general.
Matt Mosley had a couple nice pass breakups during the drill, appearing to be one of the defensive standouts.
LOCKER BASEBALL UPDATE — Locker’s father, Scott, attended the practice and said he was then headed to meet with representatives of the Angels. The deadline for Jake Locker to sign is Monday and Scott Locker said today’s meeting figured to decide for good whether his son will sign with the Angels.
“If it’s going to get done, it’s probably going to get done today,” he said.
MORE NOTES
— Jake Locker and the rest of the team will return to the field for another practice tonight at 6:45 p..m. at Husky Stadium. That workout is scheduled to feature a lot of short-yardage type of work and figures to be fairly physical. Sarkisian said he wants to see the offensive line match the intensity of the defensive line after the defensive front seven dominated in Friday’s practice.
— Word I’ve gotten on Dominique Gaisie is that there was an initial miscalculation of his credits, which is why he was on the field for a day. Sounds like this is another case where if UW accepted PE credits from junior colleges he would have gotten in. But since UW doesn’t, he didn’t have enough credits. So that’s why he may end up at another school now.
More later.
