So what kind of bonus did Locker get? And other notes

Conflicting reports tonight on just how much money Jake Locker may have received from the Angels to sign.
The LA Times is reporting that Locker received a bonus of about $300,000 to sign with the Angels. Locker finally came to terms on Saturday afternoon, two days before the deadline to sign.
Here’s the Times story which also says the Angels hope to work out Locker at their Arizona spring training facility (which is actually not far from the campus of Arizona State) during breaks in school and football.
However, Baseball America is reporting that Locker received $150,000
Either amount gives Locker some pretty good pocket change for simply giving his rights to the Angels with apparently no commitment to ever play baseball (though the Times story seems to indicate the Angels will at least keep a bug in Locker’s ear about doing some baseball stuff the next few years).
In other news. …
— More than a few of you have commented or sent me e-mails about E.J. Savannah having a cast on his hand at Picture Day today. I wasn’t there, but I did see a picture of Savannah with a cast and wrap covering much of his left wrist and hand, and have also confirmed from other sources that his hand was in a cast today. That wouldn’t be something that would necessarily cause him to miss any games, however, as linebackers play with casts or wraps on their hands all the time. It’s not ideal, obviously, and makes it harder to intercept passes. But again, all kinds of defensive players have played through such injuries. The Huskies practice early tomorrow, 8:45 a.m., as Monday is another of their double-days. So it won’t take long to get some official clarification of his situation.
— I did a podcast with Nick Daschel of Buster Sports the other day previewing UW and talking about some of the key issues facing the Huskies this season. Here it is.
— ESPN.com’s Greg Biggins had an interesting item the other day on Hawaiian QB Andrew Manley, quoting him as saying that he is still being actively recruited by the Huskies as UW intends to take two QBs in this class. Conventional wisdom had it that UW might be done recruiting QBs after getting a commitment from Nick Montana, so we’ll see where this goes.
All for now.
