The latest news and analysis on the Montlake Dawgs.

Afternoon links

As a reminder, the Huskies don’t practice today until 7 p.m., so not much news coming from Montlake until much later.
In the meantime, a few links. …
— ESPN’s Greg Biggins has some info on a few prospective UW recruits in his Aug. 31 entry. Specifically, he writes that highly-touted RB Deontae Cooper of Perris, Calif., is expected to visit this weekend. For those who have asked, I will try to compile an updated list of recruits expected for this weekend later in the week. Also note that the new Sept. 1 entry has some info on another UW recruit, Soma Vainuku.
— A good set of LSU links from the Times-Picayune.
— ESPN’s Pat Forde has his first installment of the season of his popular Forde-yard Dash column. It includes a mention of Tyrone Willingham as a coach whose firing could be at least partly attributable to a tough non-conference schedule. Maybe. But losing 44-10 at Oregon last year in the opener had nothing to do with a tough non-conference schedule. And as we’ve noted on here before, for the entire tenure of Willingham’s time at UW the non-conference schedule wasn’t the issue. Willingham went 5-8 in non-conference games overall at UW, 6-29 in Pac-10 games.
— ESPN’s Ted Miller ranks the Pac-10 safeties and has UW last. He also had UW’s cornerbacks 10th in an earlier entry.
Nick Daschel, meanwhile, ranks the Pac-10 punters and has Will Mahan at No. 5.
— Former UW coach Rick Neuheisel hasn’t won over everybody in Los Angeles.
All for now.
