Pac-10 coaches conference call notes

The first Pac-10 coaches conference call of the season is underway, with UW’s Steve Sarkisian slated to be on in a little while.
In the early going, a couple of interesting notes.
New Pac-10 commissioner Larry Scott just said that the rest of the Pac-10 bowl lineup is scheduled to be intact other than the insertion of the Alamo for the No. 2 spot.
So that apparently means that the lineup from 2010-13 will be Rose, Alamo, Holiday, Sun, Las Vegas and Emerald. Much of that has already been announced, but the Holiday and Emerald had not.
Scott, however, said today announcements should be coming shortly.
“With the insertion of the Alamo in there, I think it will be a familar lineup,” he said.
Also, USC coach Pete Carroll had an interesting take on proposals for an early signing period..
Carroll said he is adamantly against it, saying that he thinks there is already too little time for recruits to properly explore their options.
“I’m not very sympathetic to that whole thought,” Carroll said. “We just have to leave it as it is and work longer and harder and see the whole process through.”
He added that “I don’t know why you have to have an early date when we have reduced the time that kids can visit your campus and be recruited.”
And Arizona State coach Dennis Erickson just said that while senior Danny Sullivan is his team’s starting QB, that Brock Osweiler will play some in the team’s opening game against Idaho State Saturday. Osweiler is an intriguing 6-8 true freshman who originially committed to play basketball at Gonzaga.
I’ll update later with Sarkisian’s comments.
