Huskies developing plan to deal with flu

A few of you have asked if the UW is doing anything in regards to any potential issues with the swine flu.
In fact, with a couple of cases of the swine flu hitting the University of Washington student body this week, a UW athletic department official said the school is taking steps to try to prevent any outbreaks among its teams.
Specifically, a UW AD official said today that:
— The athletic department has formed a committee to tackle this problem and taking precautions;
— They’re telling student-athletes, when you have feel ill or have a fever, stay home;
— If an athlete has a 101-temperature, they are barred from activity. No practice. No games. No traveling.
— They have given a presentation to football staff to educate them on the virus;
— They said that student-athletes are not a high-risk category, but if one of them should get it, it’s easy to spread among teammates because the operate in close confines, i.e. locker rooms, showers, training room;
— In the Pac-10, volleyball teams will stop shaking hands before matches this season;
— The Pac-10 has also formed an Emergency Preparedness Committee;
— They are getting their information from the CDC (Center for Disease Control);
— They said the biggest precaution the school is taking is educating players, coaches and staff. They’re also urging folks to take TWO flu shots. One for the regular flu, the other for the swine flu.
