Some Pac-10 teleconference notes

Here are a few quick notes from the Pac-10 teleconference today:
— The most newsworthy thing of the early coaches was WSU coach Paul Wulff saying that Marshall Lobbestael will now be the team’s starting QB and the Cougars will get true freshman Jeff Tuel “ready to play.” Wulff, in fact, said Tuel “will play” this season. That basically puts Kevin Lopina, who started the first two games, on the bench.
— Also, Pete Carroll was on and had no real update on any health issues — those will come later at practice. But he said that the biggest difference in the offensive systems of the two schools it that UW has added some shotgun sets that allow Jake Locker to run.
— Asked about going against Steve Sarkisian and Nick Holt, he said that coaches are always trying to read the minds of those on the other sidelines and doesn’t think that will be a big deal this week that that all know each other so well. He compared it to being in the NFL and playing the same teams twice a year and how familiar they get over the years.
— He did say there would be some sentiment in seeing Sark and Holt on the other sideline but that “when it comes to game time, we are going go to. It won’t have anything to do with sentiment but with competition and battling.”
I’ll have more from Sarkisian’s segment in a little while.
