Thursday a.m. links — How does the Butler do it?

That latter question is what I tried to explain a little in this story today on Donald Butler. As Butler talks about, he spent the last half of last season at outside linebacker — basically the spot where Mason Foster plays now with Foster now where E.J. Savannah was last year — but likes the middle a lot better.
One other thing he mentioned that didn’t get in the story is that the defensive system last year helped prepare him for this season. It’s easy to forget, but Ed Donatell was also somewhat of a protege of Pete Carroll’s and the system isn’t really all that different. “The schemes were were running (last year) were pretty similar,” Butler said. But obviously, the execution is, which most coaches will tell you is always the key — it’s not so much what you do but how you do it.
On to more links. …
— UW cornerbacks coach Demetrice Martin earns honors as the “Recruiter of the Week” in USA Today’s weekly recruiting roundup. The item includes an updated quote from RB Deontae Cooper on his commitment to UW. He gained an astonishing 393 yards on 59 carries last week.
Steve Sarkisian is featured today in the San Francisco Chronicle, the kind of story to get used to from media outlets in opposing cities the rest of the week.
Ted Miller picks Stanford to win but UW to cover with a score that brings back some mixed memories of a previous Husky trip to The Farm. He also has some thoughts on the game in his weekly “What to Watch” entry.
Jake Locker is still at the top of Nick Daschel’s Pac-10 player ratings.
— Here’s a little more on UW commit John Timu being out for the season with an ACL (though the author may need some of your help on the proper way to reference the University of Washington.
— Here are the weekly pages from USA Today on the Huskies and Stanford , each providing a good overview of each team heading into the game.
— USC coach Pete Carroll elaborated a bit more yesterday on why he loves Jake Locker so much.
— LSU fans and players cheered UW’s win over USC.
— UW is No. 2 in a Corvallis Gazette-Times Pac-10 power poll.
— Finally, lots of news and notes from around the Pac-10 from Ken Goe.
More later.
