Pre-game random thoughts

About three-and-a-halr hours to kickoff and I’m attempting to file a quick entry here while sitting in The Old Pro Sports Bar in Palo Alto near campus. If you are in the area, this might be your place to go. Lots of Husky fans here, as well as lots of Ohio State and Cal fans.
The latter are unhappily watching their Bears get hammered by Oregon, the kind of results that further reinforces that you never really know anything when it comes to college football.
A few more deep thoughts. …
— If Cal loses, Boise State likely moves up to at least No. 6 in the country.
— It’s pretty darn hot here right now and also a little muggy, though obviously the sun will go down about an hour into the game so the heat will be a decreasing factor as the game wears on. But the hot weather that was anticipated has indeed come to pass.
— The line just keeps moving in Stanford’s favor, as you can see here. At the Golden Nugget, it has gone from Stanford by seven to Stanford by 10 Makes you wonder what they all see in this game that people in Seattle don’t. Also notice that the over-under has also gone up, bettors aniticipating a more high-scoring game.
— That makes you wonder how the game will be characterized afterward — if Stanford wins, is it an upset because the unranked Cardinal beat a ranked team? The AP writeups almost always refer to any win by a lower- or unranked team as an upset. Yes, obviously, Stanford is an increasingly heavy favorite to win in Vegas.
— There are rumors that Tyrone Willingham will be at the game in one of the Stanford president’s boxes.
More later from the stadium.
