Wednesday afternoon links and notes — Clausen and Locker are “good buddies”

This is the last day of player media availability for both UW and Notre Dame, and as mentioned earlier, it was the one day a week that Irish QB Jimmy Clausen talks to the media.
Here is a good roundup of what Clausen said concerning his health from the Chicago Tribune.
Clausen also talked a little bit about his relationship with UW QB Jake Locker. The two have gotten to know each other working the last two summers at Steve Clarkson’s QB camps in Santa Barbara.
“Me and Jake are real good buddies, talk all the time,” Clausen said. “He came out to California and we roomed together at the QB camp. So we are real good friends.”
Later he elaborated that the two “don’t text each other every day” but do so fairly regularly.
Some have noted this week that the two have had fairly similar careers as highly-hyped QBs whose careers to date haven’t necessarily gone as hoped but seem to be picking up this season.
Clausen hasn’t had to go through a coaching change like Locker, but he has had some of the game travails in getting adjusted to college ball.
“It’s just not the same from freshman year to now,” he said. “It’s just drastically different for me. I know the playbook from head-to-toe now and I know all the guys around me and the guys who can make plays just makesmy job easier getting them the ball. It’s just a different mindset.”
One that seems to be working so far as Clausen has completed 65.8 percent of his passes with 10 TDs and just one interception so far this season.
UW coach Steve Sarkisian knows Clausen well having tried to recruit him to USC during his time there. Clausen attended Oaks Christian, the same school as recent UW commit Nick Montana.
“He’s a great guy,” Clausen said today. “I love Coach Sark and can’t wait to see him on Saturday.”
When he commited, Clausen said Notre Dame and USC were his two finalists, saying he was lured in large part by Charlie Weis.
IN OTHER NEWS. …
— UW isn’t mentioned among the 22 schools listed in ESPN’s updated recruiting rankings.
— Not to get too far ahead, but UW’s opponent following Notre Dame, Arizona, has a bye this weekend which will help a lot of the Wildcat players get healthy
— A Notre Dame blog takes a look at Jake Locker.
— I was a guest, via e-mail on the Inside the Irish blog on NBCSports.com, talking about the Huskies. You can find my answers here, and the home page with all kinds of Notre Dame info here.
All for now.
