Notre Dame game thread

NOTRE DAME WINS — Irish get a 37-30 overtime win as the Huskies are unable to match ND’s TD.
Lots more later.
UW WINS TOSS —- Will play defense first.
LOCKER WITH SEASON-HIGH 15 CARRIES — For 42 yards. That includes at least three sacks.
WE’RE OFFICIALLY INTO OVERTIME — UW stops the return and we now go into OT.
INTO OVERTIME — UW has forced overtime with a 36-yard field goal by Erik Folk with six seconds remaining. It’s now 30-30.
GETTING YOUR MONEY’S WORTH ON THIS ONE — What an amazing game, huh?
NOTRE DAME RETAKES LEAD — The seventh lead change in what is one of the most amazing games in UW history has the Irish ahead 30-27 with 1:20 remaining. UW has one time out left.
Notre Dame TE Kyle Rudolph used all of his 6-feet-6 to grab a fade pass over Quinton Richardson for the TD.
Clausen is 22-30 for 400 yards with two TDs and one interception.
HUSKIES EXPAND LEAD TO 27-22 — With 2:52 left the Huskies have taken a 27-22 lead on a 24-yard field goal by Erik Folk. It capped one of the nuttiest drives in UW history as they got the ball at their own 25 with 12:19 to go and had six snaps from the 1-yard-line without getting the ball in the end zone. Now time for the UW defense to hold off one last ND drive.
POLK OVER 100 YARDS — That’s the first 100-yard game of Chris Polk’s career as he picks up 20 yards with just under 11 minutes left to put UW into ND territory. He had 88 yards before that drive He now has 108 on 16 carries.
ANOTHER LONG ND DRIVE, ANOTHER FG — Notre Dame held to yet another field goal after a long drive as the Huskies are perfecting bend but don’t break on defense. So it’s 24-22 with 12:23 to play in the game.
HUSKIES LEAD 24-19 ENDING THIRD QUARTER — But the Huskies surely feel the lead should be bigger after getting to the 1-yard-line and unable to get it in as Locker was stopped on two sneaks. On fourth down, it looked like Locker momentarily lost control of the ball after Tolar was pushed back into him and he was unable to get any push.
Notre Dame now has the ball at its own 16.
FOSTER COMING A LOT ON PASS PLAYS — What seems to be a tweak to the defense since about the mid point of the second quarter is Mason Foster rushing often on pass downs. UW has three sacks now, tying its season high.
AIYEWA, WALKER AT SAFETY — With Glenn out likely for the game and Nate Williams out for now, Aiyewa and Walker are the safeties as UW forces ND to punt after the Irish got to the UW 31-yard-line.
HUSKIES RETAKE LEAD — The sixth lead change of the game has UW back in front as the Huskies went primarily with the pass to move 64 yards for a TD, Locker hitting Kearse from 8 yards out for the TD with 8:57 left in the third quarter. UW leads 24-19. Locker is now 13-20 for 165 yards and one TD while Kearse has five catches for 69 yards and one TD.
The Huskies have definitely streamlined the rotation at WR this week with just four seeing any action and Kease, Goodwin and Johnson getting most of it.
GLENN HAVING X-RAYS ON LOWER LEG — Justin Glenn was injured on the long pass to Tate and is having X-rays on his lower right leg. He seems unlikely to return and Greg Walker would likely take his place.
WOOD BACK IN FOR CHRISTINE — Wood is in for his second straight series at left guard in place of Christine.
ANOTHER DEFESIVE STAND FOR UW — Notre Dame got a big play on a 77-yard reception by Golden Tate to the 2-yard-line. But from there the Huskies held them out of the end zone, Cort Dennison with a huge play on third down to tackle Allen for a one-yard loss. Notre Dame leads 19-17 with 12;51 to play in the third quarter.
Tate now has six catches for 187 yards.
HALFTIME STATS — Notre Dame is outgaining UW 251-168 but the two turnovers to one for UW have been key, as has UW holding Notre Dame to three field goals.
Here are some other numbers:
Rushing — ND 18-49, UW 15-40.
Passing — Locker 9-15, 128, two sacks; Clausen 13-18, 202, one INT., one TD, two sacks.
Polk is 9-30 rushing for UW, Allen 9-37 for ND.
Goodwin has three catches for 65 yards, Kearse three for 48.
Tate has five catches for 110 for ND.
IT’S REALLY POURING NOW — The rain is falling heavy now as the Notre Dame band leaves the field at the half having done some sort of tribute to Styx.
UW LEADS 17-16 AT THE HALF — Huskies got aggressive at the end of the half and used two long passes to get into range for a Folk 40-yard field goal on the last play of the half to take a 17-16 lead.
YOU WANTED PRESSURE, YOU GOT PRESSURE — UW brought three straight blitzes on that last drive to stop ND after it had moved to UWs 49. Clausen slipped and fell twice, including on third down, but both go as sacks for the Huskies.
LOCKER FUMBLES IT BACK — On the next play Locker was hit on a blitz and fumbled and Notre Dame has the ball, getting an 11-yard reception on the first play to move the ball to the UW 49 with 1:22 to play in the half.
BUTLER INTCEPTS — UW has the ball at the ND 34 following a Butler interception, second of the day for the Irish.
ND RETAKES LEAD — Just like last week, UW gave up the lead quickly after scoring on a lateral. This time it was a 67-yard pass from Clausen to Golden Tate as UW got no pass rush and Clausen hung around until Tate broke open. He then broke two tackles near where he caught it, then another down the sideline. It’s 16-14 UND with 3:27 to play in the half.
TRUFANT SCORES ON LATERAL — Desmond Trufant has scored a TD picking up a lateral from Clausen, who tried to throw a screen to Allen. It’s the second time in two weeks UW has scored on a botched lateral. UW leads 14-9 with 4:39 to play.
UW PUNTS AGAIN — Two dropped passes — one each by Goodwin and Johnson —- killed that drive and UW has punted for the third time since scoring on the opening drive. ND takes over at its own 27 with 6:09 to play, beginning to take some control of the game.
RAINING STARTING TO FALL — It’s still light, but as UW takes over at the 7:11 mark of the second quarter, it is beginning to rain.
ND TAKES LEAD — Another Tausch FG of 34 yards has Notre Dame ahead 9-7 with 7:20 to play in the first half. But UW again held a long drive to a field goal. ND has a 174-80 edge in yards but hasn’t gotten into the end zone. De’Shon Matthews played that entire series at DT, at the three-technique position.
CLAUSEN HITS EIGHT OF FIRST NINE — For 104 yards as UW is having trouble stopping the pass so far.
WOOD FOR CHRISTINE — Nick Wood played at LG for Greg Christine on UW’s last drive. UW went three and out after Locker was sacked on third and two trying to get off a screen.
ND CUTS LEAD TO 7-6 — Another Tausch FG from 40 has UW’s lead down to 7-6 with 14:08 to play in the half. But it was a victory of sorts for UW as ND was stopped on a third and one run. Nate Williams had the tackle but Elisara and Everrette Thompson also had good penetration.
FIRST QUARTER ENDS — UW leads 7-3 but Notre Dame is driving with the ball at the UW 21 with a third-and-one.
DENNISON GETS SACK — Fifth sack of the season for UW. And D. Jones in for Crichton on this drive.
HUSKIES FORCED TO PUNT — UW’s second drive ended in a punt and Notre Dame has the ball at its own 20 with 4:35 to play in the first.
UW’S SCREENS HURTING ND ON THE BLITZ — Another Locker to Kearse inside screen has given UW a first down and that’s at least three times the Huskies have use short passes effectively to evade a blitz.
AGUILAR NOT PLAYING — He hasn’t been in the game yet.
NOTRE DAME CUTS LEAD TO 7-3 — Notre Dame drove 49 yards to get a field goal to cut the lead to 7-3. Justin Glenn saved a TD when Armando Allen broke open for a 21-yard gain. Glenn got him down at the 8 and the Irish couldn’t get the ball in.
HUSKIES DRAW FIRST BLOOD — Nice drive for UW 56 yards down the field concluding with a Locker 5-yd TD run to put the Huskies ahead 7-0 with 10:10 remaining. It’s the third time in five games UW has scored a TD on its opening drive as the team scripts its first 15 plays.
SORRY — LOTS OF COMPUTER TROUBLES AT THE MOMENT — Interesting beginning with Cole Sager back as the up back on the kickoff return team – Sark had said he wanted more blocking this week out of that spot. And UW on the move after the fumble by C. Polk overturned.
DENNISON OFFICIALLY THE STARTER AT SLB —- It has just been announced that Cort Dennison will officially get the start.
Hopefully you saw the live chat for some other pre-game notes. Among them are the list of some of the guys who didn’t make the trip, notably Kurt Mangum, Matt Mosley and Luther Leonard.
Also, the Huskies are in all-white uniforms today for what school officials say is the first time. If anyone has definitive proof of any other time it may have happened, happy to see it.
