Thursday morning links, notes

Has date of the the Oregon State game in 2010 been changed? That, and more (though in this case, more does not mean Andy Rooney). …
— A savvy reader pointed out to me that the link for the future schedules the other day included another change I neglected to mention — the Oregon State game in 2010 has been moved to Dec. 4. It had been scheduled for Oct. 16, right in the middle of the season. Moving it to December gives the Huskies a bye at exactly the halfway point, which is the reason for the change. And in even-numbered years, UW has to get a little more creative to find those byes since they can’t just move the Apple Cup back a week in Pullman, as they can when it is in Seattle. So I’m assuming now the 2010 schedule is set.
— In my haste to get to a personal event last night, I also forgot to include in the practice report that UW has added two walk-ons — David Butler, a long snapper from Central Valley High, and Houston Hubert, a place kicker from Bellevue High. Both are true freshmen.
— For my story for Thursday’s paper I wrote about Desmond Trufant, with some help from intrepid Seahawks reporter Danny O’Neil, who cornered older brother Marcus yesterday for some telling quotes about his younger sibling. I didn’t get it in the story, but when I asked Nick Holt yesterday how Desmond Trufant graded out in the Notre Dame game, he said he wasn’t perfect, and pointed to a missed tackle on Notre Dame’s final drive. “But other than that, he played really well,” Holt said. From Holt, that’s high praise indeed.
— There’s lots of Jake Locker-NFL talk out there, something we addressed in our own story on this a couple of weeks ago. Maybe the most noteworthy today is that Locker is up to No. 4 on Mel Kiper Jr.’s Big Board.
Greg Biggins has news about an RB/WR visiting UW this weekend, Kyle Middlebrooks of Fountain Valley, Calif.
— ESPN’s Ted Miller picks Arizona to win a close one. He also says UW has to start turning competitive performances into consistent wins — and I think the coaches would agree completely.
Nick Daschel, meanwhile, picks the Huskies
— One-time UW signee Dominique Blackman is tearing it up at Harbor JC. But to answer the obvious question, I wouldn’t expect him to ever play for the Huskies.
— Here’s the latest Arizona news from the Daily Star and the Tucson Citizen.

All for now.
