Monday practice report

Fans, talk-show hosts, us beat guys, may continue to sift over the remains of Saturday’s game for a while.
But for the players, it was Back-to-Work Monday, and so the Huskies did just that this afternoon, conducting an hour-long workout at Husky Stadium. As is the case on Mondays, it was a light, no-pads affair.
Everyone participate, other than guys with long-term injuries, except for DT Cameron Elisara, was in red while recovering from a stinger suffered Saturday, something that has been a continual problem for him all season. Apparently, the injury makes his arm go numb. He had hoped that some additional padding last week would help prevent it happening again, but that wasn’t the case and he sat out the second half at ASU with Everrette Thompson filling in. Thompson continued to work today as the starting DT in his place.
Coach Steve Sarkisian said today that the secondary remains a work in progress and that was evident during practice as there was lots of rotating, particularly at the other safety spot opposite Nate Williams. But usually, it was Nate Fellner running with Williams.
True frosh QB Keith Price played the role of Jeremiah Masoli in practice as the UW defense began preparing for Oregon’s unique spread offense.
IN OTHER NEWS. …
— UW officials say 64,100 tickets have been sold for the Oregon game. They also say that Oregon returned 500 tickets out of its allotment (and I don’t know exactly what that allotment was).
— To clarify the position of Grey Rugemar, who was apparently the one cited for the penalty on the UW bench Saturday night, he is an unpaid assistant strength coach working with the offensive line. He is a former ASU linemen who played a while in the NFL, most recently with the Seahawks, which is why he’s in the area now. To answer the inevitable question, there is no restriction on how many strength coaches a school may have — a lot of schools in other conferences have more than the three for football that UW currently has — but it’s expected that the NCAA may address that issue at some point.
Benji Olson, an OL from 1995-97, will be the Husky legend Saturday. He recently retired after a lengthy NFL career.
— I may have neglected to mention earlier that Steve Sarkisian was asked about the penalties assessed against ASU’s Vontaze Burfict Saturday but said he would have no comment. While UW officials asked the Pac-10 for an official review of some calls following the Notre Dame game, they won’t this week other than the usual weekly review sent in by the coaches.
All for now.
