Middleton says Huskies “plan on scoring at least 50 points” Saturday

There wasn’t a lot of trash talking at today’s Apple Cup press luncheon, but Kavario Middleton lobbed one salvo at the Cougars when he said the Huskies plan to score at least 50 points against WSU Saturday.
Middleton initially made the statement in reponse to a question from a reporter from Q13 Fox, who asked Middleton about the fact that UW is favored by 26 points. Middleton said he didn’t care about any ot that but that “we plan on scoring at least 50 points.”

Middleton didn’t back down when asked later about his comment, saying that “we want to put up 50 points, run the score up, put on a show. We’re just trying to make a statement that we are the real deal.”
Middleton also said that the Huskies want to make sure they keep the Cougars in their current place at the bottom of the Pac-10 standings.
“When they are down, we want to keep them down, push them lower,” Middleton said. “Make it known we are going to be reckoned with.”
And asked the thought of losing to the Cougars, Middleton said “I don’t even want to think about that. But it would be devastating.”
The comments came a few minutes after UW coach Steve Sarkisian had said he discourages his players from trash talking.
“I don’t know what you get out of it,” Sarkisian said. “I don’t know where you gain. I think the guys that like to do that are looking for attention, whether it’s here or anywhere else. I like to think that we put our helmets on, we put our uniforms on and we talk with the way we play. It’s not about what you say, it’s what you do.”
