Woodward chat at noon, and other Friday notes

First off, a reminder that we’ll have a live chat with UW athletic director Scott Woodward today at noon. You can ask about any topic concerning UW sports, not just football, and it will last for an hour or so.
In other Friday news. …
Greg Biggins’ recruiting update includes the news that touted Hawaii LB V.J. Fehoko will be visiting UW this weekend. Fehoko is definitely one of the top targets left for the Huskies. He also writes that the Huskies are making a big move on OLB Josh Shirley of Fontana, Calif. Undoubtedly, each is the type of defensive playmaker that would just enhance the perception of this class.
— My story for the paper today led with an update on Cal DLs Deandre Coleman and Trevor Guyton, each local players who headed to Berkeley.
— The San Francisco Chronicle looks at how Shane Vereen has filled in for Jahvid Best the last few weeks.
Jon Wilner says the Bears are pretty much playing for a berth in the Sun Bowl tomorrow.
— I’ve forgotten to link these all year, but VegasInsider offers a good stats breakdown of the games each week. Cal is now favored by seven with an over-under of 58.
— Here’s the weather report for tomorrow — it’s going to be cold, cold, cold, but dry.
— The Cal student paper examines what the Bears still have to play for.
— The UW Daily guys ask and answer some pertinent questions about the Huskies.
— Lucky Lester picks the Bears, 38-21.
— There’s no shortage of Civil War stories out there. But I found this one maybe the most relevant for UW fans, as Ken Goe asks the question whether Oregon and Oregon State are in a position now to challenge for the Pac-10 title every year. If so, it only makes UW’s job getting back to the top that much more difficult. Regardless of which way you lean on that topic, it’s unquestionably more difficult for UW — or any Pac-10 team — than it was 20 years ago or so with the way the Oregon schools have ramped up their football programs.
Ted Miller also has a good piece on how it got away from OSU at the end.
All for now.
