Kiffin picks Huskies, and more Saturday news and notes

Steve Sarkisian and Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin may be good friends dating to their days working together as assistants at USC.
But that doesn’t mean they think exactly alike.
I can guarantee that Sarkisian, if ever appearing on ESPN’s GameDay and asked to pick a “coaching edge” in a game matching two of the biggest rivals in his conference wouldn’t do what Kiffin did today — give an honest answer.
But you had to love Kiffin saying Alabama has the coaching advantage in the SEC title game today, allowing him to take yet another shot at Florida coach Urban Meyer.
And UW fans had to like Kiffin sticking up for Sark, picking the Huskies to upset Cal today. Lee Corso and Kirk Herbstreit each sided with the Bears. (By the way, if coaching doesn’t work out for Kiffin, he’s got a future in TV — I thought his breakdown of a lot of the games today was great).
In other news. …
— Here’s my preview story for today’s game and the scouting report.
— The San Francisco Chronicle details all of Cal’s bowl possibilities depending on the outcome of today’s game, and also notes that the Bears’ players aren’t worried about the cold weather.
— The Oakland Tribune preview today notes that Cal’s O-line is growing up.
— Uh oh. Jim Moore picks the Huskies to win today — I’d better see if there are pigs flying outside my house.
— And here’s one betting site that agrees with Moore recommending its customers take the Huskies today.
— Heck, even Nick Daschel is on the UW bandwagon, picking the Huskies 31-30.
— BetUs.com, however, says take the Bears.
— An incredible amount of Pac-10 links from The Oregonian’s Ken Goe.
Interesting news out of Arizona where UA athletic director Jim LIvengood, who worked for a long time at Washington State, is apparently going to become the new AD at UNLV and may hire Arizona defensive coordinator Mark Stoops as the new coach there.
— UW commit Melvin Davis scored three TDs in leading his team to a playoff win last night. Also included is a photo of another player UW hopes to commit, Hayes Pullard.
— Oaks Christian and Nick Montana and Erik Kohler play a semi-final playoff game tonight.
More later from Husky Stadium.
