Pac-10 won’t go winless in bowl season, and a couple more links

Not that anyone should have thought the Pac-10 wouldn’t win a bowl game, but the way the first two contests unfolded, the conference needed something to right the ship.
And as it usually does this time of year, USC came through, with maybe not a spectacular performance but ultimately a pretty convincing win against Boston College. Ted Miller has an instant analysis here. USC is now 7-2 in bowl games under Pete Carroll. UPDATE — Here’s some unexpected news that USC junior DE Everson Griffen says he will enter the NFL Draft. WR Damian Williams is also expected to go.
The Pac-10 is now 1-2 in bowls this season but won’t be in action again until Tuesday, when UCLA will face Temple in the Eagle Bank Bowl.
The big news of the night is obviously the sudden resignation of Urban Meyer as coach at Florida. Not only will it be interesting to see who takes his place there, but also the resulting domino effect. So far, UW has been unaffected by the off-season coaching turnover and there’s no indication it will be. (I’m in the process of putting an entry together on this but pretty sure it’s been at least since 1990 that UW has returned a coaching staff intact from one year to the next, as so far would be the case for next season).
Here’s the best thing I’ve seen written so far on Meyer’s resignation from The New York Times.
Also, here’s an interesting take assessing where Cal’s program is at the moment.
