Sunday night links — fans and the future

Catching up on a few links from the past few days. …
— A series by Times columnist Jerry Brewer looking at fandom in Seattle focuses in Monday’s paper on UW football. He also has this on UW men’s basketball.
— A few Huskies mentioned in our Readers Poll of bests and worsts of the past decade, including the 2000 football team winning honors as the best UW athletic team.
— A reader pointed out for me the roster for the Offense-Defense bowl in Myrtle Beach, S.C. on Jan. 2. Included are UW commits Erik Kohler, Jamaal Kearse, Darius Waters and Chris Young.
— Speaking of Kohler, he and Nick Montana were each named to the Los Angeles Daily News All-Area team.
— The LA Times has a good wrapup of the southern California high school season noting that UW commits Deontae Cooper and Jesse Callier were the top two ground-gainers in the area. Callier is credited with 3,010 yards and 43 touchdowns, Cooper 2,863 and 34. Also included is a list of some of the top recruits for next year and even a few for 2012.
— Frank Burlison of the Long Beach Press-Telegram called Callier “easily the Southland’s best at his position.”
— UW got a couple mentions on Nick Daschel’s list of the top overachieving games of 2009.
I’ll continue the look at the decade past tomorrow with a list of the top 10 games.
