OSU offering Riley lifetime deal, and some updates on USC recruits

A couple of interesting stories to link tonight:
— First, The Oregonian is reporting that Oregon State is preparing to offer Mike Riley a lifetime contract to keep him in Corvallis and head off any overtures from USC. That story was published a few hours after LA Times columnist T.J. Simers wrote that hiring Riley might be the only thing that could save USC athletic director Mike Garrett. Not sure I’ve ever heard of a Pac-10 football coach with a lifetime contract.
UPDATE, 9:15 A.M. SUNDAY — Interesting story from Yahoo.com this morning that Reggie Bush has been interviewed by the NCAA, indicating the investigation may be nearing a close. Again, there are increasing rumblings that the Trojans are going to get hit with significant penalties, including loss of scholarships, loss of TV money (they wouldn’t be taken off TV as that also hurts the opponent), and possibly a post-season ban. Also, a good Yahoo.com column putting into perspective where things stand at USC right now. The author makes the same point I’ve made for a while — the length of the investigation is likely more the result of the NCAA taking a serious look at this than anything else.
— Also tonight, Jeff Fisher said he’s not going anywhere and that he won’t be a candidate for the USC job. Fisher played at USC, the reason he’s long been thought to be interested in coaching there.
— If it’s neither Riley nor Fisher, USC may look to another alum, Jack Del Rio, and this Jacksonville writer says he may be tempted (and I’ve seen some rumors in the Twitterverse saying Del Rio may be quite interested).
— The LA Times also had this look at what might happen with USC’s recruiting class. Looking through the names, I really don’t see anyone that would seem likely to end up at UW instead. Hayes Pullard, mentioned in the story, has tripped to UW but has been viewed as likely headed to UCLA if not USC. The Huskies were also recruiting QB Jesse Scroggins, but with Nick Montana in the fold, hard to tell if they’d get back into it with Scroggins if he were to de-commit.
— ESPN.com also has this look at what might happen with USC’s recruiting (and again, I don’t really see any names that UW was heavily involved with) and also a list of possible coaching replacements (none of them named Sarkisian). The New York Times also has a story assessing USC’s recruiting.
All for now.
