Carroll reportedly resigns at USC, Sarkisian says he wasn’t contacted

Sounds like what has been rumored for several days has finally happened as the LA Daily News is reporting tonight that Pete Carroll has resigned as coach at USC.
That clears the way for Carroll to become the new coach of the Seahawks — Danny O’Neil of our staff has the latest on that here.
The most relevant question of this for UW fans may be who succeeds Carroll at USC. UW coach Steve Sarkisian was assistant head coach at USC from 2005-2008 along with offensive coordinator in 2007 and 2008 before coming to UW.
The LA Daily News reported earlier today that Sarkisian had been contacted but said no thanks.
Sarkisian said via e-mail to the Times tonight that he was not contacted by USC. But he also has said he is not interested in leaving UW, saying Friday that Washington “is my dream job.” Another report of Sarkisian’s reported contact with USC referred to him as a “fallback” candidate. But again, Sarkisian told the Times tonight he was not contacted by USC.
USC’s search for a new coach is expected to begin with Oregon State’s Mike Riley, and The Oregonian noted earlier that his silence on the issue should be worrisome to Beaver Nation.
UPDATE 9:15 p.m. — Here’s an interesting look at USC’s coaching options (no mention of Sarkisian), and also the news that Carroll told his staff and players via a text message.
