With the USC move finally being completed, still lots of stuff of interest out there. …
— I’ll start with what may be the best thing I’ve seen of how USC went from Pete Carroll to Lane Kiffin in the span of about 96 hours, this lengthy piece from Ramona Shelburne of ESPNLosAngeles.com. Shelburne writes that by Monday, one question was whether the Trojans should just turn to either Steve Sarkisian or Lane Kiffin after the rebuffs from other corners. She writes that: “While Sarkisian was a popular choice, he clearly had reservations about leaving Washington after just one year. Had he actively pursued the job, it could’ve been his. He did not.” That sentence is a step short of saying he would have been offered it had he wanted it, but also restates the view from up here that Sarkisian was content to stay put.
— Kiffin’s introductory press conference tonight got a little contentious at times, as ESPN.com’s Ted Miller explains.
— Also meeting the media was assistant Ed Orgeron, who said he didn’t break any recruiting rules when he was caught talking with a few Tennessee recruits Tuesday night.
— USA Today does a nice job wrapping up both events.
— USA Today also has a nice look at the recruiting situations facing both USC and Tennessee.
— Oregonian columnist says the Kiffin hire is a great thing for the rest of the Pac-10.
— UCLA coach Rick Neuheisel held a teleconference tonight and addressed the Norm Chow to USC rumors and said that Chow has told him he intends to stay. But nothing is official yet and I haven’t seen Chow quoted anywhere saying anything yet.
All for now.
