Spotlight on Andrew Hudson

One thing I’ve tried to do the last week or so is get a hold of coaches of some of the UW commits, especially some of the guys fans may not know as much about.
One of those I talked to a few days ago is Kurt Bruich, the coach at Redlands (Calif.) East Valley High, a school that has sent a few players UW’s way the last few years, such as Chris Polk and Ronnie Fouch.
The latest is defensive end Andrew Hudson, listed at 6-3, 214.
Hudson committed to UW in November after also considering Oregon State and Arizona, visiting the week of the Oregon game.
“Everybody in the Pac-10 recruited him,” Bruich said. “He basically decided on three schools that he really looked at. UCLA came in the mix and he just said no. He just said ‘these are my three schools’ and he stuck with those three the entire time. After his three visits, he decided UW was the place for him and he called the other two and he hasn’t really been pressured since.” (Here’s a story on his commitment).
Hudson finished with 10 sacks as Redlands went 11-1.
“He’s a sack machine,” Bruich said. “He just gets to the quarterback. He has a great motor. Great push off blocks and he gets leverage.”
Hudson is currently participating with the Redlands wrestling team, having finished eighth in the state at 215 pounds last year though seeded No. 1 heading into the meet.
Bruich said Hudson will add some weight after wrestling season to begin preparing for his arrival at UW next fall (which is why you see him listed at around 230 on some other sites).
