Thursday afternoon notes — Young expected to make unofficial visit this weekend

A few Thursday afternoon notes, leading off with the news that Auburn High’s Chris Young is expected to make an unofficial visit to UW this weekend, and including the thoughts of ESPN’s recruiting analysts on where Sean Parker may be headed. …
— First, Young. I spoke to his coach at Auburn High, Gordon Elliott, who said Young is expected to make an unofficial visit to UW this weekend. Young, a running back/safety/linebacker prospect took the SAT for the first time last weekend but getting a score back this quickly would be hard to do — you need an official score to take an official visit. So Elliott said he thought it would be an unofficial visit. But Young is expected to be on campus this weekend. Elliott said UW running backs coach Joel Thomas is expected to visit Auburn High on Friday.
Elliott said Young had been scheduled to take the SAT two earlier times but hadn’t been able to, but did get it done last weekend. When Young does get his score back it will put into clearer focus whether he will make it to UW next fall — eligibility works on a a sliding scale of SAT score and GPA.
“He has some work to do to get where he needs to be,” Elliott said. “Some of that depends on his SAT score. But he’s doing better and he’s been working really hard to get to that point. he dug himself quite a whole when he was young and he’s still trying to dig himself out of it. Hopefully by the end of the year he’ll be where he needs to be.”
But Elliott said there is no question that Young will sign with UW on Wednesday.
Taking an unofficial visit means Young can be shown around campus by coaches, attend the basketball game, but can’t be put up for the night in a hotel or wined and dined as could happen on an official visit.
— Another player still rumored to be considering UW is cornerback Sean Parker of Narbonne High in Harbor City, Calif. Parker is reported to be down to USC, Michigan, Cal and UW.
However, two recruiting experts on ESPNU each said today they expect Parker to look somewhere other than Washington.
Craig Haubert said he thinks Parker will decide on Michigan while Tom Luginbill said he thinks Parker will end up at USC. Said Luginbill: “This is Lane Kiffin’s first test of continuing the dominance in the state of California. This is a key pickup for them with their future establishing relationships in the state.”
— UW is also hosting some juniors this weekend and Auburn High lineman Danny Shelton, expected to be among the top recruits in the state for the Class of 2011, was among those invited. But Elliott said he will not be able to attend due to a wrestling commitment.
— ESPN.com’s Ted Miller is revising his list of the top 30 Pac-10 players for 2009 and has Donald Butler at No. 24.
— Speaking of Butler, RealGM.com says he is the best LB at playing pass coverage at the Senior Bowl, while Danny O’Neil of our staff also wrote this today about him.
All for now.
