Wednesday morning links

On the Amtrak to Vancouver, but with a little bit of time to pass along a few links;
— As might be expected, lots of stuff out there on possible Pac-10 expansion. This link rounds up a number of different angles. Though the one I saw mentioning Utah State proves some people aren’t really thinking this through. As Steve Sarkisian might say “c’mon man.’ Utah State? Might as well invite Idaho — and I see how excited UW fans are every time the Vandals come to town. Speaking of which, all this talk of Utah reminds me that I don’t remember any Husky fans really getting worked up a few years when the Utes came to Seattle for a hoops game that the Huskies had to win to get to the pre-season NIT Finals in New York. Is that really what everyone wants — home games against Utah at the expense of USC or UCLA? Color me a stodgy traditionalist, but I’d rather have USC come to Husky Stadium every other year — no one yet has written anything to convince me adding Utah helps anything in the big picture.
Ray Ratto writes on CBS Sportsline that Pac-10 expansion could lead to a massive trickle-down that could all but kill the non-BCS conferences and force Notre Dame to join a conference. Ratto also got to write a different take on this for the San Francisco Chronicle saying that Utah and BYU seem the most obvious candidates (I still think Larry Scott’s comment yesterday about schools having to mesh with the Pac-10 “culturally” was largely aimed at BYU, but wouldn’t be the first time I was wrong).
Nick Daschel, meanwhile, writes that maybe this is all just to appease USC (if so, consider it a done deal).
— In other news, Ted MIller unveils his pre-spring power rankings and has UW at No. 5, thanks mostly to a QB whose name he can’t seem to remember.
— The Olympian has a note on HB 2912 writing that UW backers could still try to amend the bill to add an amendment that would allow for funding of Husky Stadium once it comes up for a full vote.
All for now.
