Interesting update on Pac-10 expansion

Okay, so I said I’d have “sporadic” posts on here for the next week. Sporadic can take on a lot of different meanings, and as the weather has broken not as pleasant as we’d like where we are, I’ve had a little more time this morning than thought to tool around the net.
And one thing I found was linked on the previous thread by another reader — this update on Pac-10 expansion from Dennis Dodd of CBSSportsline.com.
The story makes two key points:
— The Pac-10 is exploring options for a conference title game without expanding and that one possibility for such a game is Qwest Field in Seattle (hooray for that thought);
— And that college sources are telling Dodd that there may not be much value in the Pac-10 expanding (something you’ve read from me on here before).
So sounds like the Pac-10 is looking at whether it could get some of the benefits of expanding without actually expanding. Another of Pac-10 commissioner Larry Scott’s comments in the story, that expansion isn’t necessary to add a Pac-10 network, seems to indicate a further step away from expanding.
As Dodd writes, there are some hurdles to all of this. But there are some intriguing possibilities to try to keep much of what is good about the Pac-10 at the moment while still keeping up with the rest of the college football world financially.
